Grand Forks Fire/Rescue presents
Spring Fire Training 2017
April 28 - 30, 2017
The BC Volunteer Firefighters' Association Okanagan Spring Training Seminar, hosted in 2017 in Grand Forks, is principally focused on giving a
volunteer fire department's junior firefighters exposure to a broad range of
both interactive and classroom sessions on a number of fire/rescue related
subjects. It is also a chance for senior firefighters to see how other
departments work, to mentor their junior members, and to share experience and
knowledge with firefighters from throughout BC. We expect to host between
300-400 firefighters over that weekend.
From handling the "Jaws-of-Life" in an auto-extrication
exercise to working with a team conducting a building search; from firefighter
safety concerns and risk reduction to thermal cameras and sprinkler protection;
from being a part of a low-angle rescue team to learning about advances in
car safety technology affecting rescue; our program contains a wide-range of topics.
With over two dozen demonstrators/educators and eight
sessions over the two days, we intend to offer departments sending several
members the opportunity to expose them to different session groupings to
maximize what experiences they collectively bring back to the department.
In addition, all firefighters are invited to represent their departments and
challenge themselves in the ever-popular "Firefighter Challenge", a timed
event occurring throughout Saturday, with prizes awarded to
the winners during that evening's banquet.
Be assured, every moment will afford firefighters an opportunity to be
challenged, physically and mentally. Sessions will be delivered by
industry and education leaders in the Province: professionals, veterans,
and active firefighters alike.
The Spring Training Seminar has become a BC tradition through the hard work
and dedication of the Oliver Fire Department. Grand Forks have worked up our
own unique and diverse palette of training sessions that will challenge
firefighters of all levels of experience. It will give them a chance to
meet their brothers and sisters throughout the province and will constitute
the most impactful morale-building (in terms of volunteer retention) opportunity
that any volunteer department in BC will have this year.
